TO BE A MAN

Date: 30.03.2024

Location: Candid Arts Gallery, London

Event Overview:

Under the Roof’s debut show, ‘To be a man’, invited viewers to explore the multifaceted nature of masculinity through a wide array of mediums. The aim: not to provide answers but rather spark discussion and reflection. Masculinity is a pertinent topic today as society navigates evolving gender norms, striving for inclusivity and equality for all genders. This pertinence was made evident by both the overwhelming number of artists who contributed towards this event and the high level of engagement it received from the public.

‘To be a man’ held at Candid Arts Gallery on the 23rd of March 2024 had some of the UK’s most acclaimed artists, including those who have works in the National Portrait Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, British Culture Archive and more. Alongside those incredible painters and photographers, there were also readings and screenings from artists who have won a BAFTA award, performed at Edinburgh Fringe, London Soho Theatre and more.
